There’s something to be said about giving your child the responsibility of preparing a meal for the family : The pride and sense of achievement brims.

One of my daughter's favourite self-led recipes is this ‘fruity explosion smoothie bowl’. Suits every occasion - breakfast, after school snack + dessert. She makes it by herself from beginning to end, so no admin...besides a truck load of granola crumbs on the floor. I love seeing her independence grow while she’s buzzing around...it’s one of my favourite things.

*as described by said 7 year old.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup frozen raspberries

  • 2 overripe banana’s, cut in pieces and frozen

  • 4 tbsp milk you like most, we use milk from a cow or almond milk

Toppings

  • 2 handfuls granola - “We like @tedandmems because it’s named after my friend Ted. His mum is the best granola maker.”

  • Any fruit you like, I cut it all up with my child’s knife

  • Cinnamon ‘dust’

METHOD

  1. First, put the frozen raspberries into your blender. Blend until the berries are in little bits. Then take two big spoonfuls out and put them in a bowl and back in freezer for later.

  2. Add the banana’s and your milk of choice to the raspberries in the blender.

  3. Pour the thick smoothie into two bowls then carefully add your toppings including the crunchy raspberries from the freezer.
